Er wird somit nachfolger von Stan Wawrinka welcher dieses Jahr Dritter wurde.
Zweiter bei der Sportlerwahl wurde ein weiterer Radsportler - Mountainbiker Nino Schurter.
Zur Schweizer Sportlerin vom Jahr 2016 wurde Skirennfahrerin Lara Gut gewählt, die Gesamtweltcup Siegerin vom letzten Jahr.
